The difference between an IDE and a code editor is that the former is often tailor-made for software development and comes with a code editor, a debugger, and built-in tools that greatly simplify the development process. But web designers don't usually use these features, so a code editor is enough for them. Read on to find out the best code editors for web designers in 2017.

You may be interested in our other article, in which we have collected in different areas of web development.

While most web designers work with visual tools, there is sometimes a bit of coding and customization that needs to be done, and not everything in web design can be achieved with visual tools. Although this situation seems to be changing rapidly. With that in mind, in today's post, we've decided to focus on the best code editors for web designers that are very easy to customize to give you the most comfortable coding environment.

Sublime Text

Also known as Sublime Editor, this text editor/ IDE is widely known in the field of web development and web design. Sublime Text stands out for its versatility and customizability, allowing any user to customize the editor to suit their own needs. Regardless of the language you are coding in (Java, JavaScript, or C++), Sublime offers many different custom plugins, as well as the ability to install third-party themes shared with the community by fellow developers.

Sublime is free to use, but from time to time a dialog will pop up asking you to buy the full version. And believe me, it's worth it! Keep in mind that the free version doesn't have any feature limitations, but it's nice to invest in something that pays off a thousand times over.

Notepad++

Notepad++ is the successor to the standard notepad that many of us grew up with. Notepad++ is a simplified code editor that is ideal for web designers and coders. It is easy to use, yet quite advanced. It understands the basics of coding and offers customization options, allowing for more open coding.

Free code editors for web designers

atom

Atom is the latest code editor developed by the very famous open source community, GitHub. Despite the fact that Atom appeared relatively recently, this code editor has already managed to attract a large number of fans. This is made possible thanks to its flexible design, great optimization options, as well as strong support from the community.

The built-in package manager allows you to write code from within the code editor itself, saving you time and therefore increasing your productivity. Those who like to write code quickly will be pleased with the autocomplete feature, which intuitively remembers the features when you write code and the language you use when you write it.

vim

Vim is an easy-to-configure text editor designed for efficient text editing. This is an improved version of the vi editor that comes with most UNIX systems. It is very hard to meet someone among developers who has not heard of the Vim code editor.

Vim has been around for years, and any dedicated UNIX user will most likely choose this code editor for development and design. Despite being quite popular, the Vim editor is not that easy when it comes to learning Vim and all the commands it uses. If you like to use keyboard shortcuts when working on a UNIX system, you will definitely enjoy writing code in Vim.

Free code editors for web designers

emacs

Emacs is the successor to Vim, at least according to its users. Like vi, Emacs is a screen editor, but unlike vi, it is not an insert mode editor, which means that all characters entered in Emacs are automatically written to the file, unless they are prefixed with team. Many people prefer Emacs because of the customization options. But you should try it yourself to form your own opinion.

Brackets

Brackets is another great code editor that is actually made exclusively for web designers. With built-in visuals and preprocessor support, Brackets removes the tricky words when it comes to designing websites directly from the browser. Brackets is famous for its frequent updates. And also the fact that its creators are attentive to feedback from users, which allows you to improve and optimize any necessary components of the editor.

The "Extract" feature allows you to extract project data directly from a PSD file, something you won't find in any other code editor today. With Brackets, you can make changes to CSS and HTML that you see immediately on the screen. You can also find out what a CSS selector is applied to in the browser by simply hovering over it. This program combines the power of a code editor with the convenience of in-browser development tools.

Free code editors for web designers

Coda

If you're looking for a simple and straightforward website building solution, Coda is probably the one for you. It's the perfect text editor that supports encoding syntax, multiple languages, and other amazing features. They will make the development process fun and interesting. More tech-savvy designers will appreciate the built-in MySQL database editor, which will save you the hassle of using different tools to develop a single site.

TextMate

Even though TextMate is only available for OS X users, it is one of the most comprehensive text code editors on the market today. TextMate is not considered an IDE, but thanks to its snippets and macro support, it has become a great replacement for those designers and developers who need customization and flexibility in their workflow.

ICEcoder

ICEcoder has the distinction of being one of the few browser-based code editors that can be used both online and offline. The ability to edit code directly in the browser is attractive because of the freedom it gives you to directly test your code and track development progress in real time. Themes, code hints, database management, and many other features are all attractive to developers and designers alike.

Code visualization has not been a priority for developers for a long time. This article provides a list of 9 WYSIWYG editors that are used for this purpose. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with it in case a similar task arises during the implementation of your project.

What is the best editor of 2016?

In this section of the article, you will find some great editors that will make your work easier and faster. And what is the best of them?

Editor's Choice: Atom.io

Many editors have been created over the years, but only a few of them have remained at a high level or become even better. Atom.io is used by all my programmer friends and I choose it too.

If you need best editor HTML WYSIWYG , which will reduce the time spent composing code or editing it by 10 times, then this is Atom . Try it and you will be grateful to me. Atom.io is free and it's built by the Github team.

Another tool that deserves praise is Coda, a very cool editor for Mac users. It has a perfect and beautiful interface, but it costs $99. At the moment, I prefer Atom!

Now a review of the other editors.

This is a cross-browser simple WYSIWYG editor with all the necessary features. It has a beautiful user interface including popups and buttons. One of its distinguishing features is the well-implemented work with tables. At the same time, in Google Chrome OpenWYSIWYG is not yet supported.

With the development of computer programming languages in a qualitative and quantitative sense, it became necessary to systematize the visual data of the code on information output devices in order to increase the productivity and efficiency of developers.

The history of the development of software development tools has more than a dozen years. Mankind has gone from presenting information on paper and perforated tapes to presenting it with the help of modern tools by developers presenting code on a monitor and a graphical representation of the code's operation, with the possibility of manipulating it.

Modern code editors have borrowed their functionality from visual text editors, as well as from specialized text development tools that come with various compilers. From text editors and office suites, modern Internet page development tools have absorbed all the best in the field of presenting text and graphic information on a computer screen. From specialized editors attached to program compilers, such as those in Pascal or C, web page code editors have absorbed the possibility of syntax highlighting and substitution of code elements.

Borrowing the traits of both ancestors, web editors pages began to develop, along with their parents. Some editors have absorbed more options regarding the graphical display of information on the screen and manipulation with already executed code. The other part has absorbed a large number of possibilities for syntax highlighting, and substitution of program code in different languages in the form of raw text. In some applications, the functions of both predecessors are harmoniously combined.

Text editors for Web development are usually called those programs that have absorbed the best qualities of working with code and syntax highlighting in various languages. For programming applications on the Internet, special developer tools are used that can work with HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript data.

Personally, I don’t like all these dances with a tambourine. I would rather use a ready-made programming product than build it myself. But, this is my opinion. Perhaps on the Internet, you will find ready-made special builds of vim and linux, created just for you, already with add-ons included, but the official version of Vim is not a special tool for developing applications for the Internet, IMHO.

gedit (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Gedit is a more advanced editor than Vim, created specifically for the Gnome window manager on Linux, then migrated to other operating systems. As a linux user, I have abandoned this product in favor of other applications due to the need to dance around encodings that are not supported in this editor on linux. A normal person simply does not have time to waste time. All Linux applications have this problem, for which there are no universal solutions.

Out of the box, there are features for Web developers:

    Syntax highlighting

  • Red line

Additional plugins that can be found on the Internet:

    Closing tags automatically.

    HTML Code Inspector

    Body text generator

Regular Expressions for Search and AutoCorrect

    Browser code transfer integration

For windows users, this is a somewhat unusual solution, but for linux OS lovers, this is a familiar tool.

Fraise (Mac)

An easy-to-use and feature-free editor for Mac, Fraise contains the necessary tools to easily develop applications for the Web without additional plugins:

    Syntax highlighting

    Convenient work with blocks

    Search and Replace

Blocks for quick input of HTML and CSS tags

Built-in browser with automatic update when changing styles

Closing tags with the click of a button.

    HTML Inspector

This editor was created specifically for Mac and is a good replacement for the standard text editor. It is a Smultron application, for this reason it only works on later versions of the Mac OS, or when Smultron is installed.

Text Wrangler (Mac)

Professional development environments and their branches

Komodo Edit (Windows, Linux, Mac)

The functionality of this program is borrowed from a parallel commercial project and extended with additional plugins, which makes it almost unlimited. But what do we need from an ideal editor for developing Web applications? It has everything you need for comfortable work with any program code. What does not let me relax is that the manufacturers did not provide for the ability to view the code in two windows at once. This makes working with code not so comfortable. Personally, I don't like to reinvent the wheel, and it's easier for me when there is already some source code in front of my eyes that can be improved in a parallel window.

The possibilities of Komodo Edit are limited in the free version, rather modest functionality compared to the Komodo IDE, but what exactly can Komodo Edit offer us:

Support for syntax highlighting in most programming languages for the web

    Autocomplete and closing tags

    File manager and project manager.

FTP is a client that works on different protocols.

Built-in browser to view the results of work.

Search and replace functions with regular expressions.

    Multi-window tabbed interface

    Checking html code tidy

The functionality is far from limited to this, so it satisfies any need. Although, the program itself may seem a bit unwieldy for Linux users. The fact is that the built-in browser and ftp client are not quite what is required from a text editor. There are programs that cope with these tasks much better than integrated solutions. Why do I need a fridge if I don't smoke? This maximalism in the implementation of the ideal text editor, in my opinion, signals a crisis in the growth of Komodo's capabilities.

Bluefish Editor (Windows, Linux)

Bluefish Editor - perhaps there is also an analogue for Mac. Perhaps the only solution for Linux in terms of development that is suitable for solving any problems, but in my case, the bluefish turned out to be very cumbersome and slow when working with search and substitution, and in all other cases. In general, the functionality of the program is similar to the functions of Aptana Studio. This program is for professionals. Not to list all its functionality. Therefore, setting it up requires certain skills, which I apparently do not have enough to make working with it comfortable. The main drawback of this editor is, in my opinion, slowness and sluggishness, which I should dwell on.

Aptana Studio (Windows, Linux, Mac)

Aptana Studio is an even more hulking all-around monster that has proven itself well in coding for the web. Among other things, this program provides a full range of services for development in general. The complex implementation, according to some users, makes this program intimidating for non-professionals and somewhat slow. An additional advantage of using this monster is the presence of a built-in Web server, which allows you to view dynamic pages with code running on the server side. This will appeal to programmers in PHP and other similar languages running on the server. Personally, I'm a little tired of the constant need to keep a full-fledged server on the computer and constantly move php files to its directory. In this regard, Aptana offers a very pleasant development environment. How is this product positioned on the official website?

Support for HTML , CSS , JavaScript in the form of highlighting, inserting ready-made designs and substitution.

Project manager with a client for working via ftp protocols.

Built-in debugger for inspecting html, JavaScript, Rubby&Rails code

Support for Git (distributed version control), which professional programmers may need.

    Embedded terminal supported.

It is possible to control the interface, which greatly simplifies the task of finding the necessary controls, because. unused elements can be hidden. Later access to them will be available through the menu.

Visual editors for WEB developers

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX.

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX - the full functionality of this program is not known, probably, even to the developers themselves. It is not for nothing that so much is said about this in the books that you can find on the shelves of bookstores about this program. It works with almost any multimedia data.

AdobeGolive and Adobe LiveMotion.

Unlimited functionality in the development, layout, and cutting pages. Many consider the functionality of AdobeGolive insufficient, but the complex use of Adobe software is unrivaled. This topic is not for a short article, but for multi-volume works on Adobe.

Microsoft Front Page

It is a convenient, easy to use, visual development environment. It does not differ in the cleanliness of the output code. (In particular, he loves to "cut" into the layout

for their own insidious purposes). But at the same time, it allows you to work with various multimedia data and does not require knowledge of special skills, in addition to knowledge of Ms Word. Almost every student can cope with it without difficulty. It can load ready-made pages via ftp, but as always with MS - through one place. At the moment, the Front Page in the Microsoft Office suites has been replaced by Microsoft Expression Web and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer.

There is an ancient (1997) and even supposedly free version of FrontPage Express that makes fairly clean code, which, however, no longer conforms to HTML standards. But if you need to whip up a complex table in a hurry - this is exactly what you need. There is no distribution package for FrontPage Express, it works without installation.

COFFECUP HTML Editor

A fairly good visual editor, equipped with the simplest functions for working with visual information. In addition to a simple visual representation, Coffecup Html Editor is able to work with raw code.

The program contains many ready-made blocks with html code, which you can use at your discretion, as well as several code templates for CSS , in which you can substitute your own parameters. There are quite a few templates.

Out of the box there is a project manager

You can work with sites via ftp

Full functionality of conventional text editors for web development

The ability to view code fragments in parallel with displaying the result of the work of this segment.

In general, the implementation is not bad, there is a built-in browser. What I did not like about this program is that Coffecup shamelessly rapes the output code and does not work very stably. As an alternative, I chose NVU for myself. In fact, neither program is suitable for full-fledged layout, but it is suitable for solving the problems of filling sites with information, without the need to manually embed texts and pictures through text editors.

COFFECUP Visual Site Designer

Similar application only without code editing capabilities. A purely visual editor with very modest functionality that is not suitable for full-fledged programming.

Nvu

NVU - no extra words will sound here about the special functionality of the program. I'll get straight to the point. What did I like about this editor? I like the fact that it is completely user controlled. All the same is in CoffeCup, but I liked Nvu more. In addition, it works more stable and faster. Code fragments in Nvu are a little smaller, so there are some special effects or CSS scripts in it. But who needs this squalor? Personally, I need a free visual editor, like most simple programmers, only for solving simple tasks related to filling static sites with information, without having to climb into the page code. There is also the ability to edit files on ftp, which is also very useful when working with statics. As a visual editor for creating Web pages, Nvu is quite limited.

WYSIWYG Web Builder

We build websites fast and fun.

WYSIWYG WEB Builder is a shareware program that provides users with a full range of options for building websites, without knowledge of special languages and codes. You can, as they say, sketch a finished site in a matter of minutes, simply by clicking on the elements you like and dragging them onto the site page. Nevertheless, the program also contains tools for creating complex shapes, styles and introducing various objects from the Internet and the site project.

A program for developing websites using WYSIWYG technology WYSIWYG WEB Builder 8.5.1 has already been released. The program is delivered in shareware mode. In this version, compared to the previous release, there are 50 additions and 150 new features announced by the manufacturer. In total, this release contains about 250 ready-made solutions, many ready-made templates and even its own CMS that works from the network. To test the site, you don't need anything other than the editor itself, everything you need is built into this product from Pablo Software Solutions.

Declared novelties in version 8.5.1

    HTML5/CSS3 support

    Embedded content management system (CMS)

    Carousel

    Theme manager with jQuery support

    New navigation features, etc.

Main functions.

WYSIWYG , DRAG&DROP (Visual editor, dragging objects to the project page from a special menu)

No knowledge of page markup language required

    Output formats: HTML4, HTML5, XHTML , CSS3, PHP

Style manager with support for standard tags

Flash, HTML5 multimedia, Youtube, Flash video, etc.

    Slideshows, scrolling menus, and more.

    Convenient navigation.

Content Management System

The CMS from this distribution includes many features, which we will briefly describe:

    Admin panel.

Built-in support for popular text editors for CMS

    Support for additional plugins

Separate menu for different objects in the project

Built-in search features to find online content

CMS works using AJAX technology. This makes it easier to navigate within the project.

CMS contains the ability to present pages in the form of thumbnails

Ability to embed external pages in the project

HTML5/CSS3 support

Support for modern standards allows you to implement projects at a high level, without the use of cumbersome complex solutions. CSS3 and HTML5 will lighten the site and make it fully functional without the use of third party applications other than the browser. According to the WYSIWYG concept, the user does not need to know markup languages and cascading tables. All you need to create an HTML5 object or apply a CSS3 effect is to click on the object or effect example you like in the application menu. Manufacturers announced the following ready-made solutions for websites:

More than 250 ready-made solutions for your site, which are easy to apply to the project.

Web Page Maker

At the moment 3.21 is the latest shareware version of one of the famous WYSIWYG Web editors, which has a fairly simple functionality for creating simple sites. Nevertheless, this tool allows you to quickly and without any special knowledge implement a blank for a future site template or even create entire projects that can be immediately sent to hosting through the built-in FTP client.

This version has one important drawback, it is implemented on English language, which makes working with a simple, in essence, code rather confusing, since editing graphic elements through the built-in window interface seemed completely incomprehensible to me. Nevertheless, if you understand the control system of this program, then working with it will be quite comfortable. In appearance, the program looks quite simple, the menu is not overloaded, but the interface cannot be called intuitive. But the manufacturer also declares his product rather modestly.

Product description

WEB Page Maker is an easy-to-use web editor that will allow you to create and upload web pages to hosting in minutes, without knowledge of HTML. Just select the element you like from the menu and drag it to the right place on the page. This is true. Elements can be placed anywhere on the page. The main package includes several templates, with the help of which it will be possible to figure out how to configure this or that object by slightly poking the mouse over the page and playing with the values. The package includes a color picker, a JavaScript solution library, an image library and an FTP client.

Main functions
Conclusion

This is an adequate description of what this little editor is capable of. For 15 days you can try it absolutely free. If you purchase the paid version, then you will be offered a number of additional templates, effects and shapes, but support for HTML5 and complex CSS gradients will not come from this.

However, some features and effects can be very useful when working on finished pages. You can create a menu, add highlight effects when you hover over some elements, create a form, or a payment button in the PayPal system. But, in general, in order to fully create complex projects, this software will still need to grow and modernize its functionality, according to more modern HTML5 and CSS3 standards. latest version Web Page Maker looks a bit dated.

Let's draw a conclusion

We've taken a look at some of the most famous free text-based coding apps, and we've looked at some of the visual editors and delved into the essence of the available paid applications. What can you conclude about Web developer software today?

Universal bulky programs for developers work too slowly and clumsily, they have a lot of errors. Therefore, users prefer small programs that perform their functions well.

Not a single program is able to create a high-quality new application for the Internet on its own, without further development. Ideal layout is possible only when the programmer uses his knowledge, and does not trust the programs.

Professional programmers, with the help of simple tools available to everyone, will be able to create a full-fledged Internet application, without the use of proprietary software.

You can speed up the process of filling static type sites with information using simple visual editors, like Nvu, which are freely available.

For professional designers, a solution from Adobe is suitable in combination with other programs from this manufacturer.

Dreamweaver is well suited for solving fast layout tasks. But the code will need to be finalized independently, using the simplest programs - text editors.

Epilogue

In conclusion, I want to say a few more words about software for Web programmers. Only a few programs that are suitable for working with code have been considered here.

They differ in purpose and functionality. They do not solve one single task, so in each specific case, one of the programs will not be in the place that I assigned it.

HTML editors allow you to manipulate HTML tags directly in your code. Some programs also include a WYSIWYG editor, while others work in text mode. Below is the ranking of HTML editors for Windows OS. Popularity declines from the bottom up.

1. Adobe Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is one of the most popular professional web development software. It is very powerful and contains many settings for comfortable work. This program can be easily customized to your needs by both a programmer and a web designer. Personally, I use it to edit JSP, XHTML, PHP and XML.

It's a good choice for professional web designers and developers, but if you're a freelancer, I recommend trying Creative Suite editions such as Web Premium or Design Premium. These editions allow you to edit graphics and contain many other features such as Flash editing.

Komodo Edit has been positioning itself as the best free XML editor for years. It includes many features for editing HTML and CSS. In addition, if this is not enough, you can install the necessary extension in order to add support for other languages or other useful features (such as special characters). Personally, I use this editor mainly for working with XML code.

There are two versions of Komodo: Komodo Edit and Komodo IDE.

3. Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium

If you are a graphic artist or web designer and you don't know about Creative Suite Design Premium yet, then you definitely need to do it. Unlike the Design Standard edition, which doesn't include Dreamweaver, Design Premium gives you InDesign, Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, Soundbooth, and Acrobat.

Since it also includes Dreamweaver, you can also create web pages in parallel with drawing graphics. Web designers who are more focused on graphics than pure HTML code will appreciate the wide range of advanced graphics features included.

4. Microsoft Expression Studio Web Pro

Expression Studio Web Professional is a combination of Expression Web with Expression Design and Expression Encoder. This combination gives you all the tools you need to edit graphics, videos and create web pages. The package features are enough to create sites with support for languages such as PHP, HTML, CSS and ASP.Net.

5. Microsoft Expression Studio Ultimate

Expression Studio Ultimate combines Expression Web with Expression Design, Expression Blend, Encoder Pro, and SketchFlow to give you everything you need to work with graphics, video, and web page code. Designers will certainly appreciate the great graphics editing capabilities of Expression Blend. Also Expression Studio Ultimate is ideal for developers who work primarily with ASP.Net. There is Silverlight.

Komodo IDE is a great tool for developers who create more than just web pages. It supports a wide range of languages including Ruby, PHP and many more. If you are building web applications using Ajax, you should take a look at this IDE. This editor also supports team development.

7Aptana Studio

Aptana Studio is a rather peculiar web development tool. Instead of focusing on HTML, Aptana focuses on JavaScript and other elements that allow you to build rich web applications. One of the things I really like about this editor is the simple DOM rendering. This greatly simplifies CSS and JavaScript development.

NetBeans IDE is a Java development environment that makes it easy to build robust web applications. Like most development environments that focus on programming, it has a steep learning curve. One of the great features is version control. This tool will be really useful for people who already have experience in other major development environments.

9. NetObjects Fusion

Fusion is a very powerful HTML editor. It contains all the tools you need to create a website: development, design and FTP. It also has great support for Ajax and dynamic websites. Before buying, you have the opportunity to try the product using the free version of NetObjects Fusion.

10.Coffee Cup HTML Editor

The CoffeeCup editor is a great tool for web designers. It comes with a lot of graphics, templates, and extra features - like the CoffeeCup image mapper.

For comfortable work with HTML pages, making changes and edits to them, HTML editors are used. To date, there is a wide variety of such editors, each of which has its own strengths and weaknesses, and can also be used for various tasks.

Adobe Dreamweaver is one of the oldest HTML editors, the first version of which was released back in December 97. Since then, the package has undergone a lot of changes and eventually became a real professional HTML editor, which is used to work with complex web projects. It has all the relevant tools for a web developer.

AT new version the HTML 5 standard is supported, and the code editor and the developer window have been improved. Implemented support for the CSS preprocessor, as well as displaying all changes in the browser window in real time. Provides tight integration with Flash Player. Completely updated exterior design.

The disadvantages of Adobe Dreamweaver are its "heavy weight" and demanding hardware. You need to have a few free gigabytes on your hard drive to install the package. The program has a large number of different tabs and settings, which requires additional time to familiarize yourself with it. Also, Adobe Dreamweaver is proprietary software, for the use of which you need to pay money.

Despite this, the program has a free trial period, during which you can evaluate all the advantages and benefits of this package. Usually this period lasts for a month from the date of installation of the program.

Multiplatform editor Sublime Text is gradually gaining popularity among professionals. This is due to its maximum simplicity, no frills and at the same time the presence of all the necessary tools that a developer needs. However, if you suddenly need something, and this will not be in the standard functionality of Sublime Text, then you can always find it as a plugin, or you can write it yourself in Python. All work is done using hot keys, so the window of the program itself has a minimum of interface elements. The workspace can be divided into several independent windows, arranged horizontally, vertically, or in a grid.

Despite all the advantages, the Sublime Text editor remains a rather difficult tool for beginners. Even the standard editor setup here is not done using the menu, but using config.json files, working with which requires basic training from the user. However, it will not be difficult for professional programmers to customize this tool for themselves, given that it comes with complete documentation.

The Sublime Text editor is proprietary software, but you don't have to pay to use it. Each time you launch it, a reminder window will pop up that you can officially buy this program, but it's more on a donation basis than a mandatory purchase.

You can download the program on the official website: https://www.sublimetext.com.

Notepad++ is not technically an HTML editor, but it can be used for this purpose. It has built-in syntax highlighting for HTML and XML markup languages, most popular programming languages, some of which are also used in web development, such as PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python and many others.

There are a number of tools that help with code editing, such as markers, code folding, auto-completion, a project manager, multi-line editing and selection, support for various encodings, and much more. There are also a large number of plug-ins for Notepad++ from various developers, which significantly expands the functionality of the program, making it a serious competitor for professional HTML editors.

The advantages of the Notepad++ text editor include its speed and low disk space. In addition, the program has a very simple interface, which does not require additional time for training. In addition, updates are constantly being released for Notepad ++, about which the program itself notifies users, offering to install them. The most important advantage of the editor is that it is distributed under the GNU GPL 2 license, which implies free software.

You can download this editor right now from the official site https://notepad-plus-plus.org without any restrictions.

It's a simple editor with a nice interface that visually vaguely resembles Sublime Text. Written in CoffeeScript. Atom is a rather young text editor, the first release of which occurred on February 26, 2014. Has support for plugins written in Node.js. Suitable for beginners to work not only with HTML, but also with a number of other tasks.

Atom is free and can be installed on most popular operating systems. In addition, it is quite easy to install and use, works fast and requires a small amount of free hard disk space.

To get started with this editor, just click "Open a Project" from the welcome window that opens by default. Next, a directory for work is selected, after which a file is created in it and its extension is indicated. The syntax for the file is determined automatically based on the specified extension.

Vim is a professional free text editor that originates from the family of the oldest Unix editors. The first release of Vim was November 2, 91. Known as a tool for professional programmers, which provides tremendous opportunities for automating work. The standard visual interface of Vim is console, but there is a modification of Gvim that works through a windowed graphical interface.

When working with Vim, there are several modes, switching between which hot keys and their functionality change. Initially, Vim starts its work in the so-called "normal" or "command" mode. It has all the usual hotkeys like "copy", "delete", "paste". In other modes, you enter text, work with the console, or invoke visual mode. It would seem, why such difficulties? The fact is that Vim was developed as a tool in which any action is considered not from the position of classical "convenience", but as something that requires maximum optimization.

Vim is very fast and consumes almost no system resources. As for the difficulty of learning, this is definitely not a tool for beginners. More than a hundred commands have been developed for the move operation alone. Of course, you don't have to memorize them all. Everyone chooses his own style of programming and, based on it, learns what he needs. Only in order to master this editor at the proper level will require considerable patience and time. However, diligent users will be rewarded with the most powerful code editor currently available. Vim is a free and multi-platform tool that runs on Linux, Mac, Windows, and a range of other operating systems.

Unlike other programs, IntelliJ IDEA is a professional integrated development environment (IDE). In addition to being able to work seamlessly with HTML / XHTML / HAML markup languages and CSS / SASS / LESS page appearance description languages, the ability to work closely with Java, JavaScript, Python and Coffee Script is implemented. IntelliJ IDEA is developed by JetBrains.

Why should you start using this program? First, it has a really thoughtful interface. You can start working with it immediately after installation, even if you have never met it before. In addition, you can work with such popular tools as CVS, Apache Ant, Maven, JUnit and Subversion, which, by the way, are completely free.

Unfortunately, IntelliJ IDEA itself is not fully free program. Full version is available only for a 30-day trial period of use, and its reduced functionality version lacks quite a few useful features and can really be useful for developing applications on Android or when working with a Java machine.
