Want to send a movie to friends or send hundreds of family photos to relatives, but don't know how to do it without resorting to removable media? If you know how to transfer a large file over the Internet, then you will not need anything but a computer with the original data.

Using uTorrent

Many users download movies, games and programs from torrent trackers, not suspecting that the uTonrrent application can also be used to transfer large amounts of data on the Internet. This is not about creating a full-fledged distribution - you will be transferring information between two computers without a torrent tracker.

The transfer between computers will be made using the Distributed Hash Table (DHT) technology, to enable which you need to configure the torrent client.

As an example, let's take the most famous and popular client - uTorrent:

To transfer a file via a torrent, you will have to go through a few simple steps. After completing all the steps described below, the end user will receive the necessary data, regardless of their volume.

Creating a torrent file

You can send the created file to several users, bypassing torrent trackers - they will simply download the necessary information from the link directly from your computer.

Important! The file you transfer must always remain in the folder in which it was located when the distribution was created.

So, let's start creating a special metadata file containing general information about the contents of the distribution:

After carrying out the described manipulations, you can close the torrent creation window. In the main window of the uTorrent application, you will see your file, which will be assigned the "Sharing" status.

Getting file by user

After creating a new torrent, you need to transfer it to another user.

The distribution file weighs several kilobytes, so you can send it in any convenient way - by e-mail, through social networks, instant messengers, etc.

The other user will only have to add the received torrent to the download queue, as he does with movies and other files from trackers, and wait until the file is transferred to his computer.

The download time depends on the Internet speed on the computer of the distributing and receiving, as well as on the size of the file. In any case, using uTorrent is one of the most convenient ways to transfer large amounts of data. The advantages are obvious: for example, you do not have to think about how to split the file into parts in order to cram them into letters and send them in several visits. But there are other options for transferring files, which will be briefly discussed below.

Using Yandex and Google services

All major email platforms offer users convenient file transfer options. True, it is not always convenient to use them: the amount of data is strictly regulated, uploading to the server is sometimes delayed, and another user must have an account on the same service. However, this method also has enough advantages, so let's see all the options.

To use Google cloud storage, you need to log in to the site and select the "Google Drive" application.

Further actions will be as follows:

You have two options for granting access. The first method is not very convenient - you specify the Gmail mail of another person, and he will be able to view and download the file sent to him. But if the recipient does not have a Gmail mailbox, then it is better to stop at another option - click the "Enable link access" button.

All you have to do is set the access parameters (view, comment, edit) and send the generated link to the person. He will follow it in the browser and will be able to download the sent data.

If you have mail on Yandex, then you should also have access to the Yandex Disk service. It can also be used to send large files.

The service on Mail.ru works in a similar way - you upload the necessary information, provide access to other users and generate a download link.

It seems to be convenient, but, for example, sending a large video recording takes a lot of time, so it's better not to try to send files larger than 1 GB.

cloud services

If you don’t have space on Yandex cloud storage or you just don’t want to bother with registration for the sake of sending one video, then you can use the functions of special services that allow you to quickly transfer information in large volumes. All such services operate on approximately the same principle, so we will dwell on the description of several of them so that you understand how it works.

With the JustBeamIt service, you can transfer a large file without a long wait and registration.

The file is not uploaded to the server, so you do not have to wait for the system to prepare the link - it appears immediately after clicking the button. The resulting link must be sent in a message to the recipient.

Important! For successful data transfer, the service page must be open on your side, and the Internet must be connected.

The recipient must paste the link into the address bar of the browser and then click on the icon to start downloading the sent information. After successful completion of the transfer, you can close the service page. The JetBytes service works in a similar way, the only difference of which is the support of the Russian language.

If you feel uncomfortable around English alphabet, then it is better to use the functions of JetBytes - you can apply it according to the instructions described above.

FileDropper

If, when using the two services described above, the file is not uploaded to the server, and therefore you need to constantly keep the page open and the Internet connected, then FileDropper offers you the opposite scheme of work:

Free transfer via FileDropper is limited to 5GB.

How to work with the service:

Another service works in a similar way - File Convoy. It works similarly to FileDropper, however, the maximum amount of data sent for free here should not exceed 4 GB.

First of all, we will talk about large files, because there are no problems with small ones - they can be sent by mail, via Skype or a social network.

But with large ones, it is much more difficult to do this, since, as a rule, they are downloaded for a very long time and at the most inopportune moment the download can be interrupted.

We need a way that will allow both us and the person to whom we want to transfer the file to upload it as quickly and easily as possible. That is, so that we do not strain, and the recipient does not have to suffer by installing additional programs.

You can transfer files over the Internet as quickly and easily as possible with the help of cloud storage services.

The principle is as follows: you upload a file to your cloud, after which you receive a link to download it. Send this link to the person you want to send the file to. All! The person on it passes and downloads.

How to upload a file to the cloud

If you do not have your own cloud on the Internet or you do not understand what it is at all, study the Cloud lesson.

There are two options: either you upload the file to the cloud through a special application - a program on a computer, or without it - through a browser.

We will now take a closer look at each of these methods.

Upload and transfer a file without an application

Let's consider a way to transfer a file without using a special program - an application for the cloud. The whole process will take place through a regular browser - Google Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Yandex, Internet Explorer or any other.

In the browser that you use to browse the Internet, you need to open your cloud service and upload a file to it.

I will show this process in the three most popular services - Yandex.Disk, [email protected], Google Drive.

Let me remind you that if you have an email box on one of the three sites (yandex.ru, mail.ru or gmail.com), then you also have a personal cloud. Just follow the instructions.

We go to our cloud through a browser (program for the Internet). Since we are talking about “mail” cloud services, we simply open our email box. Then go to the section where the cloud is located.

In the mail on the yandex.ru website, this section is located here:

In mail.ru - here:

And in gmail.com, you need to click on the squares at the top right and select the "Disk" item:

Then click on the button with which you can upload the file to the cloud. In Yandex.Disk, it is at the top and looks like this:

In [email protected], this button is located in the upper left corner (under the logo):

In this cloud, when you click on it, an additional window opens in which you need to click on the "Select Files" button:

In Google Drive, the button for uploading a file is in the upper left corner - it is red with a drawn arrow, next to the "Create" button:

When you click on it, a small list will open, from which you need to select the "Files ..." item:

In each cloud, a special window opens to download the file:

In this window, you need to find and select on your computer the file you want to download. That is, right in the window you need to open the folder in which the file is located, and double-click on it with the left mouse button.

The download will start. It is necessary to wait for the complete completion of this process. The download speed depends on your internet speed as well as the computer file size. The larger it is, the longer the download will take.

When the file is downloaded, it will be written in the window with its download:

Close this window and see the downloaded file inside the cloud, next to other files.

In Yandex.Disk, to do this, click on the file icon.

A check mark will appear at the bottom, and an additional part will open on the right side for editing the file.

Click on the "Off" switch. It changes to "On" and the link address appears next to it.

In [email protected], to get the link, you need to hover over the file. A gray bar will appear on it, on which there will be an icon with the image of chain links on the right side.

You need to move the cursor over this icon - it will be highlighted in green - and click on it with the left mouse button.

A small window will appear with a link to download the file.

In Google Drive, to get a link, you need to click on the box to the left of the file to check the box.

Then click on the button with the image of a man and the + sign

A window will open in which you need to configure access. To do this, in the "Access Level" section, click on the "Change" link.

Another window will open, in which you need to click on the item "To everyone who has the link" and click on the "Save" button at the bottom.

After that, a familiar window will open, in which there will be a link to the file.

Upload and transfer the file through the application

If a special program is installed on your computer, then you can upload a file to the cloud through it much faster and easier than without it.

Let me remind you that each cloud service has its own such program, and it is from it that you need to download it.

To load a file into the program, first open the place on the computer where it is located. Then copy it (right mouse button on the file - Copy).

After that, open the application to work with the cloud. As a rule, for this you need to open the corresponding shortcut on the Desktop or go to Start - All Programs and find it there.

A regular folder will open. We paste the file that we just copied into it (the right button inside the window is Paste).

After copying, synchronization will immediately begin, that is, uploading the file to the cloud service. The Internet must be connected.

This procedure takes some time. Sometimes it happens instantly, and sometimes you have to wait quite a long time.

You can see how synchronization is progressing by clicking on the application icon in the tray.

It's where the other icons are on the taskbar (next to the clock).

Also, the icon of your program may be under the button with an arrow drawn up.

When you left-click or right-click on the application icon, a menu will open that will tell you how the synchronization is going.

If it has already completed, then something like this will be written:

This means that the file has already been uploaded. It remains to get a link to it. To do this, in the application window, right-click on the desired file and select the appropriate item from the menu.

In Yandex.Disk, it is called "Yandex.Disk: Copy public link".

In [email protected] - "[email protected]: Copy public link".

And in Google Drive (Google Drive), point to the item "Google Drive" and select "Share". Then in the window that appears in the "Access Levels" section, click "Change ...", select the "To everyone who has the link" item and click on the "Save" button. Then copy the link and close the window.

That's all! It remains only to send it to the person to whom the file is intended. That is, paste it into Skype, a social network or an email.

An example of an uploaded file

File in [email protected]:

File uploaded to Google Drive:

Exercise

  1. Upload a small file (for example, music) to your cloud.
  2. Get the link and copy it.
  3. Paste the link into the address bar of your browser and press the Enter button on your keyboard.

Mail.ru offers us to send videos up to 25 mb in size, if the size is larger, then the video will be sent as a link.

Open mail.ru and click "Write a letter" and "Attach a file."

Next, you need to select a file on your computer, click "Open" and it will immediately download. As you can see, a message appeared stating that the file exceeds the required size and it will be sent as a link. When the video is downloaded, do not forget to write the recipient's address and click "Submit".

Attachment exceeded message

In a similar way, you can send a letter with a document through Yandex.

Disk and Cloud

Another very useful thing is virtual disk and cloud. Yandex, Mail and Google have such services. If you are not familiar with them yet, then I advise you to definitely use them, as they are very convenient for storing files. You can also easily share large files and videos.

If you want to use Yandex Disk, then follow the link, click "Upload Files", select the video on your computer and wait until the download is completed.

Let's look at Cloud Mail.ru. When you open the page, click "Upload Files" on the left, then a small window and the "Select File" button will appear. You just need to select a file from your computer and the download will begin.

If the video has loaded, then select it by ticking the box and click on "Get Link".

A small window will open from which you need to copy the link and send it to the addressee by e-mail or on social networks - Vkontakte, Odnoklassniki, etc.

This is how you can send photos, videos, any large files and documents.

Imagine this situation, you live and work in Canada. And your mother lives in Samara, or in Mednogorsk, or in Nadym. No matter where, but far away. You recently returned from a tourist trip to the Bahamas.

But how nice it will be for mom to see your photos or videos. There is nothing easier than sending these files to her. But look, you have a folder that stores 500 photos and 50 video files. All this has a volume of, say, 3 gigabytes. Or maybe you just have one file that has such a volume.

And what? It can be a disc image, or an MKV movie. There are more. We will simply take a folder with 3 GB media content, which includes 550 files. And so, now the task: it is necessary to send a folder with large files via the Internet.

Shipping Methods

Well, what could be easier? You need to attach this folder to the forwarded letter on your e-mail and that's it! I hasten to upset you twice.

  1. Firstly, you can only attach a file of a certain size to a letter, and at the same time a small one is enough.
  2. Different mail services have different restrictions.

For Yandex, let's say it's only 30 MB, for Mail.ru up to 20 MB. Of course, Google has gone the farthest, it has limits up to 10 GB per file. Of course, there are also such services as YandexDisk, and [email protected], there are also convenient loaders.

You can send in one word. What if your mom doesn't have a mailbox? She uses the Internet, you communicate via Skype. But there is no box! In this case, free file shares are suitable for us: dropbox.com, 4shared.com or even megashares.com. True, they are foreign and there is no Russian interface. Many of them do not require registration.

Just download and you will receive a download link. The amount that they allocate for free is different, but, of course, more than on mail servers. Someone has 10 GB, someone has 20. There is one little-known file storage where, upon registration, you immediately and forever get 36 TB (!).

Agree that against the background of such a generous offer, the rest of the services seem to be petty pranksters. Would you like to use it? Please - yunpan.360.cn. Just keep in mind that there is no Russian-language interface. And English, and generally not a single European. Everything is in Chinese. But you can also upgrade to 100 TB for free.

There are also Russian-language file storages, for example, these ones:

  • ifolder.ru,
  • zalil.ru.

The first one is preferable. There you can immediately upload 10 files, and the volume of each is up to 50 MB. Well, where to store we decided. It remains only to choose. By the way, not all mailboxes support working with incoming letters that contain large files. This will be another reason to use file storage.

File preparation

Now we should recall such an important point as the size of uploaded files. Agree that sending 500 photos, posting each separately, is quite tedious. And if you have one file too big, then not everyone will be comfortable downloading it.

After all, not everyone has an Internet connection via fiber optic cable. Many go through a 3G modem. It is necessary to provide not only the possibility of sending, but also the convenience of downloading content. Of course, photos can be scattered in different folders, but putting them out will not work.

In order to divide any file or folder with files into even parts, it is most convenient to use an archiver WinRAR. If you haven't installed it yet, download and install it. This program is shareware. After installation and reboot, right-click on the folder with files to be transferred,

and select "add to archive ..." in the window that appears. The archiving settings window will appear:

Here on points. Arrow number 1 indicates the archives of what volume the file (folder) should be divided. It must be entered manually. Note that the size is shown in bytes. I dialed 25 MB. Under the second number should be selected without compression.

But only if you are not sending text documents. The fact is that the compression algorithm of this program practically does not compress media content. And if so, then why once again load the computer. Arrow number 3 is special. Imagine that you have sent a zipped file, but the recipient cannot open it. He does not have an archiver installed on his PC.

In order to avoid such a situation, an SFX archive is created. This means that when archiving, a small module will be added to the file, which will allow you to unzip the resulting file, even without having an archiver installed.

Arrow number 4 shows where the received files will be saved. That's it, click "OK" and see what we got:

Freebie, such a freebie.
