How to open hidden file in excel. How to hide a sheet so that it cannot be displayed

Antipyretics for children are prescribed by a pediatrician. But there are emergency situations for fever when the child needs to be given medicine immediately. Then the parents take responsibility and use antipyretic drugs. What is allowed to give to infants? How can you bring down the temperature in older children? What medicines are the safest?

In order to be able to hide information from prying eyes, and maybe from your own, Excel 2007 and higher provides the ability to hide sheets. At the same time, you can make the sheets of the workbook both hidden and very hidden, and if necessary, make them visible again, that is, display (show).

How to make a sheet hidden?

Making a sheet hidden is very simple, for this you need to right-click on the tab of the desired sheet and select the "Hide" item in the context menu that appears. In order to hide several sheets following in a row, or all sheets except the active one (the book must contain at least one visible sheet), left-click on the first desired sheet, then, while holding the Shift key, click on the last one, then right-click click in the area of selected sheets and select "Hide" from the context menu. All selected sheets become hidden at once. Similarly, you can selectively select sheets by using the Ctrl key instead of the Shift key.

How to make a sheet very hidden?

Workbook sheets can be made very hidden. Such sheets cannot be displayed using standard Excel tools, when the context menu is called, the "Display ..." item (in some versions it is called "Show ...") is not active. To make a sheet very hidden, you need to go to the VB (Visual Basic) editor, you can do this in many ways, but the easiest is to use the Alt + F11 key combination, select the desired sheet in the VBA project of the workbook, and then in the "Visible" property of this sheet select the "xlSheetVeryHidden" option.

To make the sheet visible again, you need to change the "Visible" property back to xlSheetVisible.

How to show hidden sheets?

The reverse procedure, when it becomes necessary to display and make hidden sheets visible, may require a lot of patience. To display hidden sheets, you need toright-click in the sheet name area and select the "Show..." menu item.

After that, a window with a list of hidden sheets appears and the hidden sheets are displayed on the screen by selecting one sheet from the entire list. You can't display them all at once.

You will have to make the sheets visible one at a time. Displaying even ten hidden sheets will be quite a tedious task, not to mention more of them.

What to do if the sheet cannot be hidden or displayed?

If the workbook structure protection is set, the "Hide" and "Show" items of the context menu will be inactive. In order to perform any actions with sheets, it is necessary unprotect the book .

The sheet tabs of the current workbook in the Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet editor are displayed at the bottom left of the window by default. If they are not there, there may be several reasons - from purely technical to those related to compliance with the increased confidentiality of the data contained in this book. Returning the display of sheet labels, as a rule, is not difficult - it can take no more than five mouse clicks.

You will need

  • Spreadsheet editor Microsoft Office Excel 2007 or 2010.

Instruction

  • If there are no tabs for sheets of an open book at all, check the window settings, which could have been accidentally changed by the user. For example, the horizontal scrollbar could be expanded to its limit, closing all existing shortcuts. In this case, hover over its left border and drag it to the right far enough to display the labels. Or the workbook window may have been moved in the main Excel window so that the lower part of the window with the labels is not visible. This problem is solved by simply clicking on the "Maximize" icon in the upper right corner of the window.
  • In addition, the absence of labels may be the result of an appropriate Excel settings- their display can be simply disabled by the user. To change this setting, open the main menu of the editor - depending on the version you are using, click on the Office or "File" button. Select Options from the menu (Excel 2010) or click the Excel Options button at the bottom right (Excel 2007).
  • In both versions of the editor, select the "Advanced" section from the list of settings and scroll down to the "Options for the next book" section. Check the box "Show sheet tabs" and click OK.
  • If one or more sheet labels are hidden by the corresponding Excel command, open the "Format" drop-down list from the "Cells" group of commands on the "Home" tab. In the "Visibility" section, go to the "Hide or show" section and select "Show sheet". The editor will show a separate window with a list of all the sheets it hides from prying eyes. This window can also be opened in another way - right-click on any of the shortcuts and select "Show" from the pop-up context menu.
  • Click on the list row with the desired sheet and click OK. If you want to display several of these book items, repeat the operation for each of them.

The Microsoft Excel file is called BOOK. And the book, as usual, consists of sheets. Their default number is 3, but you can create as many as you need. Sheet labels can be easily switched with one click: they are shown in the lower left corner of the book and are called as standard: SHEET1, SHEET2, etc. Can be toggled with the hot key combination CTRL+ PageUp (PageDown). But this is not always convenient. And why are they not visible labels? Let's take a look at the settings.

    How to return labels

Let's see how the book should look like so that it can easily switch from one sheet to another. Here they are. This is the lower left corner excel books default.

But someone in the lower left corner may have a completely different picture.

What to do in this case, when when you open a book, there are no tabbed panels in it? You need to set up Excel. If you have the 2007 version of the program, the path to the desired settings is in OFFICE (located at the top left, in the very corner of the book) - EXCEL OPTIONS - ADDITIONAL - SHOW OPTIONS FOR THE NEXT BOOK. Here we find the line SHOW LABELS and put a tick. We press OK.

After that, the sheets will appear in the lower left corner of the book. If you have Excel 2003, then the path is: SERVICE - OPTIONS - VIEW. For versions 2010-2013: FILE - PARAMETERS - ADDITIONAL.

How to hide and show sheet labels

There is another function in Excel. You can hide and show sheets in an existing tabbed panel. This can be useful if you need to create a large number of sheets, when you have to use the arrows to find what you need.

In this case, temporarily unnecessary sheets can be hidden so that they do not take up space on the panel.

This is done very simply. Suppose we need to hide sheets 10, 11 and 12. To do this, first click on the tenth sheet with the right button and select HIDE.

We do the same with the eleventh and twelfth. It turns out the following.

Sheets are hidden but not deleted. The information is also stored on them. And if we try to rename SHEET13 to SHEET10, the program will not allow it.

We'll have to come up with a different name for the sheet. Or leave everything as it is.

Hidden sheets are returned to their places in the same way. Right-click on any visible sheet and select SHOW. The program will show a list of hidden sheets and prompt you to select the one you want to display. You cannot set a command for all sheets at the same time. You need to do this in sequence.

You cannot hide or delete absolutely all sheets. At least one must remain visible.

    Instruction

Probably, many of you have heard about the existence of this program. It is distinguished by an extended list of all tasks performed. For you, the most important thing is the display of detailed information about a particular process. Sometimes, some developers do not even sign the process they created. This indicates either a fast build, or the presence of a virus component in this application. The program also displays information that can be used to determine the impact on processor load, the location of this process, etc.

The only disadvantage of the program is the abundance of sometimes unnecessary functions. One user installs it for the habitual shutdown of processes. Another user is interested in detailed information about running processes. In any case, the program copes with our task - it displays list running processes. If you want to run Process Explorer instead of the standard "task manager" i.e. by pressing the key combination Ctrl + Alt + Delete (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), then click the Options menu in the running program - select Replace Task Manager.

If you suspect a hang or some kind of failure, feel free to open Process Explorer and search for an extra file. Any file that does not have a digital signature can be suspicious. Complete with any search engine, you can determine the official nature of this file and belonging to a particular category of programs.

Excel has three visibility levels for worksheets: visible, hidden, and very hidden. Visible the sheet is displayed in the sheet list of sheets in the workbook. Hidden the sheet is not displayed in the list, but it can be displayed using standard methods. So-called Very hidden a mode that can only be set and unset using macros. Very hidden sheets do not appear in the sheet list, and furthermore they do not appear in the Show Hidden Sheet dialog box.

Since most Excel users do not know about this method, it is convenient to use it if you need to hide some information.

How to make a sheet very hidden

    Method number 1. Through the VBA-Excel add-in

The most convenient way that does not require special knowledge, and also allows you to quickly hide a large number of sheets - install VBA-Excel add-in. In order to hide or show sheets in Excel, you must:

Method number 2. Using sheet property in code editor

    To hide a sheet:

To display a hidden sheet, you can similarly set the value -1 - xlSheetVisible.

    Method number 3. Using macros

We can say that this is the most difficult way, but also more versatile. With the help of programming, you can set various conditions for hiding sheets and much more. But let's focus on hiding/displaying for now.

    1. Open code editor with keyboard shortcut Alt+F11.
    2. In the left menu, open the project with the same name of your book.
    3. Create a new module (if you don't already have one) in which we will write the code to hide sheets.
    4. Go to the module and paste the following code into it:
Sub HidingSheets() " Remove extra lines of code depending on the result you want to get Sheets("SheetName").Visible = xlSheetHidden " Hide the sheet in the usual way Sheets("SheetName").Visible = xlSheetVeryHidden "Make super hidden leaf Sheets("SheetName").Visible = xlSheetVisible " Display Sheet End Sub
